Publications Department

The Communications and Publications Department comprises book publishing, research and directories, periodicals, and graphics and production. The department plans, produces, promotes and coordinates the publishing efforts of the American Correctional Association.

Our award-winning publications include Corrections Today magazine; ACAConnect, an electronic newsletter; and numerous award-winning books, directories and standards manuals.

Meet the Acting Director of Communications and Publications

Floyd Nelson is a diverse and inclusive communicator. His professional communication experience encompasses corporate, government, nonprofit organizations and a consulting business. The Associated Press (AP), The Coca-Cola Company, the White House, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Starbucks Corporation, Habitat for Humanity International, the United Nations, the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, Lockheed Martin Aerospace, and the government of Japan are some of the unique environments Floyd has worked in as a staff member or a consultant. Along with writing his share of public relations plans, media advisories and news releases, one of the books he helped get published is Michael R. Lemov’s “People’s Warrior: John Moss and the Fight for Freedom of Information and Consumer Rights.” He has a combined Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also nationally accredited through The George Washington University as a Certified Public Manager (CPM). All of Floyd’s professional experience is augmented with work-related travel to the United Kingdom, Spain, The Netherlands, Canada, Botswana, the Caribbean, Mexico, Turkey, Rwanda, South Africa, Kenya, the Philippines, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Japan. His languages include: conversational Spanish, some Japanese, and basic greetings in other languages.
