College Credits

How to Utilize Your Excelsior Credit Recommendations from Excelsior College

There are three ways that you can use the college credits which you have earned:

  1. Transfer your credits to a college.
  2. Enroll in an Excelsior College degree program.
  3. Use the Excelsior College Credit Bank.

Transfer Your College Credits
This process involves three steps.

Step 1:

Enroll in the college of your choice. Then, successfully complete and pass the required course or program.
Step 2: Request a training verification letter and transcript from ACA. First, download a copy of the “Request for Training Verification Letter and Transcript form,” complete it, and mail it to the ACA's Professional Development Department c/o College Credits. Please print clearly on the form. If you have completed your courses prior to the year 2000, you must send copies of your certificates along with the form.

Note : The verification of your course work will take no more than two weeks from the date ACA receives this form.

Step 3: Download a copy of ACA's “Course Descriptions” and “Site Visit Report,” which are under the “Directory of CJTA Credit Excelsior Recommendations.” These documents will show that the courses were recommended for college credits and will identify the course objectives and other components that need to be reviewed by the college or university.
Step 4: Once your course work is verified, ACA will send the letter of training verification and the transcript to the college/university in a sealed envelope. A copy of the letter of training verification and transcript will be sent to you on the same day.

Note: Accepting college credits from another academy, college, or university is at the discretion of the receiving institution.

Enroll in an Excelsior Degree Program
Excelsior College offers, among others, a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice; you may selection one of the five emphases:

  • Administration of Justice

Use the Excelsior College Credit Bank
The Credit Bank is designed for non-Excelsior College students who want to consolidate or group their academic records for employment or educational purposes but do not wish to enroll at Excelsior. This service enables you to consolidate or group college credits from numerous and/or various sources onto a single college transcript. For more information about the Credit Bank, please visit Excelsior's website at www.excelsior.edu.

Graduates of training academies that have been assessed and granted credits by the Criminal Justice Training Assessment (CJTA) project may have Excelsior College create a college transcript through the Credit Bank Service for $50. This service enables you to consolidate or group your training credits onto a single college transcript, thereby simplifying the transfer of the credits into other programs. The federally-funded CJTA project will cover 50 percent of the $50 cost of this service for the first 1,500 individuals who apply; this offer began on January 1, 2005.

For more information about CJTA credits, please review the “Directory of CJTA Credit Recommendations” at Excelsior's website www.excelsior.edu/cjta, or contact them directly: 518-464-8572 or cjta@excelsior.edu.
