Phoenix, Arizona, the heart of the Southwest and the capitol of Arizona, is the sixth largest city in the nation and is nicknamed the “Valley of the Sun.” If you have a desire to generate sales connections as wondrous as the Grand Canyon, then make Phoenix your oasis in January 2005.
Be sure to join thousands of corrections professionals at the American Correctional Association’s 2005 Winter Conference, January 8-12, at the Phoenix Civic Plaza, and enjoy a variety of activities at the conference as well as in Phoenix, including fascinating museums and galleries, fine dining, nightclubs and more.
The name “Phoenix” – legendary Egyptian symbol of rebirth – was chosen because the city was built on the ruins of the Hohokam civilization whose farmers dug irrigation canals still in use today. Phoenix enjoys a rich history, from its original inhabitants, the Hohokam Indians, to its Wild West days, to the establishment of the city as a trade center in the early 1900s. It also has a history dating back to 700 AD, evidenced by the Pueblo Grande Ruins, the remains of a civilized, resourceful and industrious community that inhabited the area. Much of the history and influences remain. Arizona is home to more than 20 different Native American tribes and reservations.
There are many national parks, all within several hours of Phoenix. The majestic Grand Canyon, with its colorful crayon canyon walls, is, of course, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and less than a five-hour drive from downtown. Less than two hours away are the beautiful rocks of Sedona and the forests of Flagstaff.
Phoenix also has other cultural attractions to suit nearly every taste, including the Arizona Center, with its 50-plus specialty shops, nightclubs and restaurants, which has become the retail anchor of downtown Phoenix. Downtown Phoenix, the cultural and entertainment hub for the metro area is also home to The Phoenix Symphony and Arizona Opera, Desert Botanical Garden, Heard Museum of Anthropology and Primitive Arts, Nelson Fine Arts Center (at ASU), Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Science Center, Phoenix Zoo, and Taliesin West, former summer home of famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
ACA’s Winter Conference will also provide attendees a variety of enjoyable activities as attendees venture from one exhibit to the next in search of valuable “prospects.” During each conference, ACA provides engaging, theme-based social events that give exhibitors and attendees a chance to meet and socialize in a relaxed environment.
