ACA Launches Leadership Development for Corrections Professional
Corrections personnel at all levels need leadership development. The failure to address this can be very costly,
both to the organization and to the individual employee. ACA has recently developed the program Leadership Development for the Corrections Professional, geared to groom future leaders to work in all aspects of corrections. The goal of the training is to enable participants to better assess the challenging dynamics of the organizational culture and their role as leaders within it. As part of the program, each participant will be involved in completing a 360-degree feedback assessment. The training will cover the following areas:
- The role of the 21st century leader — visioning for the future;
- Situational leadership;
- Team building and empowering employees;
- Assessing organizational cultures;
- Human resources challenges in corrections;
- Ethics, loyalty and professionalism;
- Managing and leading change;
- Practicing creativity: fostering innovation; and
- Leadership development planning.
This two-phase, 10-day training experience will also have a four-month break between the phases to allow participants time to work on a specific organizational project that will be processed during Phase 2. Upon successfully completing this program, participants will leave with:
- Study material to become a certified corrections manager/executive (CCM/CCE)
- CCM/CCE certificate for successful candidates
- 8.0 continuing education units (CEUs) from the University of Maryland
- All training materials (including feedback instrument)
- Eligibility for college credit from Excelsior College through the Criminal Justice Assessment
project
- Certificate of completion
