How Can E-Learning Benefit

Correctional Staff?

Research has shown that e-learning is a cost-effective and dynamic training tool. Interactive learning creates a positive experience and motivates students to learn. As one correctional officer, who is an OCA student, commented, "Each chapter kept me wanting to read more."

E-learning offers many benefits, including:

Consistency - Even when trainers use the same lesson plans, delivery of the training varies from class to class simply because no two people are alike. Online training provides the same training to staff - there are no obvious or subtle differences.

Centralization - All documentation can be maintained in one location, staff progress can be monitored on a daily basis, and reports are readily available to document completion of training.

Cost-effectiveness - In many cases, online training costs less than traditional learning, and more staff can be trained for fewer dollars without impacting quality.

Time-effectiveness - Online training solves the problem of geographical barriers because staff can take the courses at various locations throughout an area - there is no limit on the number of participants and no time restraints on when the training can be conducted.. Online training  also solves the problem of trying to get staff and trainers in one place at one time. In addition, the learning time is often reduced.

The Online Corrections Academy has the added benefit of satisfying legislative, training, ACA accreditation, ACA re-certification, and professional licensing requirements.

Indeed, by offering a complete range of e-learning solutions to the corrections community, OCA is able to meet the online training needs of any individual, facility, or agency.
