Who
Is OCA?
History
American Correctional Association (ACA)
Founded in
1870, the American Correctional Association (ACA) is the oldest and largest
correctional association in the world. ACA serves all disciplines within
corrections and is dedicated to excellence in every aspect of the field. Our
diverse committees, chapters, and affiliates provide unique professional and
regional insights.
ACA's
training programs have received praise from correctional professionals and
agencies nationwide, as well as many professional awards.
We rely on
our extensive correctional and training experience to help agencies assess their
training needs and identify a quality, cost-effective solution to training
staff.
Online Corrections Academy
(OCA)
Corrections
professionals who responded to a survey conducted by the American Correctional
Association and the National Institute of Justice, identified online training as
a high priority. Based on the survey results, the Association developed the Online
Corrections
Academy to provide
e-learning solutions for the corrections community.
OCA developed a partnership with Essential Learning in
2009 and, through its expansion, has become the leader in online training
solutions for the corrections community. Agencies can provide quality,
cost-effective training to staff at all levels and disciplines that meets
legislative, training, ACA accreditation, professional licensing and ACA
re-certification requirements.
Mission
The
mission of the Academy is to establish excellence in online training for adult
and juvenile correctional staff at all levels and disciplines. The Academy
accomplishes this mission by providing:
- Complete e-learning solutions for individuals and agencies/facilities
- Quality training that satisfies legislative, training and organizational accreditation requirements
- Up-to-date course content
- Rapid course development on emerging topics within the field
- Maintaining a team of authors who have extensive correctional experience and who meet rigorous selection requirements
