2012 Editorial Calendar
FEBRUARY/MARCH
Standards and Accreditation. Throughout the country, we have seen the
importance and benefits of standards and accreditation. This issue will examine
issues pertaining to this aspect of the corrections field. Possible topics
include: new standards, auditing and the accreditation process. Submission
deadline: Sept. 7, 2011.
APRIL/MAY
Reentry Programs. The issue of offender reentry and re-integration into
society has become a primary concern for the corrections field. In this issue,
we will focus on successful reentry programs and why they are effective. These
programs address the barriers to successful reentry and recognize why this phase
in the criminal justice system is so critical. Articles will explore what those
in different areas of corrections can do to make reentry work. Submission
deadline: Nov. 10, 2011.
JUNE/JULY
Best in the Business. Our 22nd annual Best in the Business issue once again
will recognize top correctional staff. Submission information is sent to adult
and juvenile correctional agencies as well as ACA's chapters and affiliates.
This issue also will include subtheme articles on correctional health as a
career. Submission deadline for subtheme articles: Jan. 4, 2012.
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
Special Populations. Offenders with special needs require specific attention
on the part of correctional agencies. In this issue, we will look at these
offenders and how to address their particular needs. Possible topics include:
aging inmates, ICE immigrants, gangs and security threat groups, sex offenders,
transgender offenders, inmates with mental and physical disabilities, military
offenders, and female offenders. Submission deadline: March 7, 2012.
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER
Professional Development. The development of staff in corrections is
essential in retaining a qualified work force. Possible topics in this issue
include: training and education, leadership development, the aging work force,
grooming new leaders, retention, and the changing expectations of today's work
force. Submission deadline: May 9, 2012.
DECEMBER 2012/JANUARY 2013
Women Working in Corrections. Females continue to be a growing segment of
the correctional work force. This edition will examine issues that affect women
working in corrections and address how they can be successful in their
professional careers. Submission deadline: July 5, 2012.
