2010 Editorial Calendar                  

FEBRUARY

The Money Issue. This issue will focus on the costs associated with corrections. Possible topics include budgets, leadership in tough economic times, justifying programs and expenditures, health care costs, inmate wages and fees, housing inmates for other jurisdictions, and wages and training. Submission deadline: Sept. 9, 2009.       

 

APRIL

Jails. Jails are a key component of the criminal justice system. Possible topics include programming, crowding, partnerships, health care, management issues and classification. Submission deadline: Nov. 11, 2009.

 

JUNE

Best in the Business. Our 20th annual Best in the Business issue once again will recognize top correctional staff. Submission forms are sent to adult and juvenile correctional agencies as well as ACA’s chapters and affiliates. This issue also will include subtheme articles on mental health. Submission deadline for subtheme articles: Jan. 6, 2010.

 

AUGUST

Offender Programs. Correctional programming has become an important policy issue due to the large number of offenders being released. Policymakers and corrections practitioners are eager to learn more about the effectiveness of programs. This issue will look at several programs and their impact on offenders’ lives. Submission deadline: March 10, 2010.

 

OCTOBER

Corrections as a Career. The correctional work force is constantly changing. This issue will explore ways to encourage people to enter the corrections field and remain throughout their careers. Possible topics include recruitment and retention, training, leadership development, education, promoting corrections, and professionalism. Submission deadline: May 12, 2010.

 

DECEMBER

Breaking the Cycle. In this issue, we will look at how to break the cycle of crime and incarceration in both adult and juvenile corrections. Possible topics include intervention, reentry, assessment, programs and partnerships. Submission deadline: July 7, 2010.
