Update
#1: August 2012
The ACA Standards and Accreditation staff has detected an error in
the Adult Local Detention Facility (ALDF) section of the
recently-released 2012 Standards Supplement. Standard 4-ALDF-4A-12-1
was listed as a new standard, but is in fact identical to the
already-existing standard 4-ALDF-4A-12. This means that
4-ALDF-4A-12-1 should NOT be considered as a standard and should not
be counted in the tally of applicable standards. All parties
conducting and monitoring audits will be made aware of this
development. Should you have further questions, please do not
hesitate to contact the Standards and Accreditation Department.
Please accept our most sincere apologies for this oversight. Thank
you!
Update
#2: September 2012
ACI 4-4264
and 4-ALDF-2A-59
The ACA Standards and Accreditation staff has detected an error in
the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) and Adult Local Detention
Facility (ALDF) sections of the 2012 Standards Supplement. Standard
4-4264 should state the following:
ACI 4-4264 (Revised January 2011):
Alternative meal service may be provided to an inmate in segregation
who uses food or food service equipment in a manner that is
hazardous to self, staff, or other inmates. Alternative meal service
is on an individual basis, is based on health or safety
considerations only, meets basic nutritional requirements, and
occurs with the written approval of the warden/superintendent, or
designee and responsible health authority, or designee. The
substitution period shall not exceed seven days.
Standard 4-ALDF-2A-59 should state the following:
4-ALDF-2A-59 (Revised January 2011):
Alternative meal service may be provided to an inmate who uses food
or food service equipment in a manner that is hazardous to self,
staff, or other inmates. Alternative meal service is on an
individual basis, is based on health or safety considerations only,
meets basic nutritional requirements, and occurs with the written
approval of the warden/superintendent, or designee and responsible
health authority, or designee. The substitution period shall not
exceed seven days.
The standard published in the 2012 Standards Supplement incorrectly
excluded the words "or designee" following "approval of the
warden/superintendent". The ACI and ALDF standards vary only
slightly: the ALDF standard does not mandate that alternative meal
service be available specifically to inmates in segregation since
2A-59 appears in the "Special Management Inmates" section.
